IRCTC introduced a new technology that  booking train tickets by SMS.you didn't require Internet connection for the new facilty . You want only a phone with SMS facility. That maynot be a problem today. This service will be available from july 1st 2013.

                                            You can book upto 6 seats at one time. IRCTC will provide a secret number for the user to book tickets. There is two methods to book train ticket.

1. USSD ( Unstructured Supplementary Service Data )

2. MMID ( Mobile Money Identifier )

                              By Using USSD you can book just like recharging mobile phones (Mobile Wallet)  . Dialing yhe given number and select train and date for your journey. You can find the options at Book tickets then Reservations.
These are the steps for booking train tickets by USSD. Payments can be done using the pin number.

                      MMID is the SMS based booking of tickets. For this you have to register at IRCTC and at your bank. They will provide you a 7 charactered number. For booking you have to send BOOK to the given number. Then you will get a number for cash transactions. By sending PAY to the given number you can complete your transactions.

                                         The feature is available for most of the phones which has basic facilities only.
